I fell in love in a purple sweatshirt
When my life began to take flight
Trips to the beach and my favorite rock songs
Made everything really alright
I wore that shirt til it wasn’t purple
I could never throw it away
Not really thinking a lot about it
Or, all the lives that it portrayed
It was there when I needed it to be
I wore it for chores and to bed
Kind of like a habit I couldn’t break
My life spinning around each thread
Maybe it’s time to clean out my closet
Yet one last wearing wouldn’t hurt
The ups and downs of my life it has seen
Not bad for a tattered old shirt
