SILVER DOLLARS

The plates sit in their special places
With silverware to the side
Except for a very special one
Which had something dear to hide

The birthday girl sat down in her place
Noticed the turned over plate
Looked at her Dad with a questioned face
He told her she’d have to wait

The whole family sat down and looked
With big faces smiling bright
Dad leaned over and whispered to her
That now the time was just right

She turned over the plate and saw it
The gift from Grandfather Joe
A shiny silver dollar was there
And, her face was all aglow

She jumped up and ran to hug his neck
And, he hugged back as he spoke
“Little girl, hold tight to this dollar”
“And, you will never be broke”

I DO hold tight to this pouch of coins
The years that are measured here
Silver dollars, Joe’s love and advice
Are now so perfectly clear

SPLATS YOU RIGHT IN THE EYE!

What do you do when you look straight up
To see all of the clouds roll by
When some damn bird meets you at that look
And, "splats" you right in the eye!
A first thought might be to harm the bird
After all it did have nerve!
Aiming right at you like some planned act
Death might be what it deserves
Your eye starts to hurt as you wipe it
Oh boy what an awful mess!
Your friends nearby start to laugh out loud
It's funny I will confess
Your thoughts then turn to saving the bird
It was fate that made it fly
It just happened to "go" don't you know
While I was searching the sky
Did I learn a lesson on this day?
Oh sure I'll wear my glasses
And, search the sky very carefully
Until that damn bird passes!

WHAT HAPPENED SANTA?

The new year is here and I should cheer
But, I can't seem to do it
It might be because dear ol' Santa Claus
Kinda sorta blew it!
I left a note in fact clearly wrote
What I was looking for
He must have read it saw I said it
But, then chose to ignore
I'm really tense because it makes no sense
I was good ALL last year!
Don't know why he simply passed me by
What's up Santa, my dear?
What must I do to prove to you?
Join the U.A.W.?
It's bright red as I clearly said
Where's my BMW??
